Our sunroom, built by Backyard

Our sunroom, built by Backyard Paradise by SunCo, was completed at the end of November 2025, so we haven’t had much opportunity to use it yet. Now that spring has arrived and temperatures are warming up, we’re really looking forward to enjoying the space. We’ve recently received most of our furniture and are in the process of assembling it—thankfully, it’s already warm enough in the sunroom to be comfortable on sunny days.

What we like about the sunroom:
• The 12’ x 16’ size is perfect for our needs.
• It looks fantastic and blends seamlessly with our home’s design (white sunroom against white stucco).
• The large windows provide a beautiful view of our spacious, tree-filled backyard.
• Opening the windows allows up to 50% of the space to be screened, which is a great feature.
• It’s conveniently attached to the living room without obstructing our view of the yard.
• Its southeast-facing location brings in lovely morning sunlight, while the roof provides shade later in the afternoon—something we expect will keep it comfortable throughout the day.
• Even in early spring, the sunroom is typically 8–10 degrees warmer than outside when it’s sunny.
• Both the roof and floor are insulated, adding to overall comfort.

We began shopping a bit late in the season (July), which is why construction wasn’t completed until late November. The permitting process with the city also took some time, so we would recommend starting earlier if possible.

We obtained quotes from three different providers and ultimately chose Backyard Paradise in part because of their ability to handle the necessary deck upgrades to meet city code requirements. Their pricing, design, and quality were all competitive, and they also coordinated electrical work and recommended a contractor to relocate our basement fireplace exhaust. We especially appreciated the expertise and attention to detail provided by Roger Beaulieu during the quoting and contract process.

The installation itself had some complexities. Our home is a raised bungalow, with the existing 12’ x 16’ deck (location of the sunroom) elevated about five feet off the ground. There was also a lower attached deck that interfered with the installation of additional screw anchors needed to support the sunroom. This required modifications, including rebuilding the stairs with a new platform. Having the team take care of this work was a huge benefit—it would have been a significant undertaking for us and difficult to ensure it met code.

Overall, the project went smoothly and was completed as outlined in the contract and at the quoted price. Communication throughout the process was excellent. Roger Beaulieu, John Carter (Project Manager), Eric Sol Cruz (CAD Designer/Procurement Specialist), and Jane Gagnon (Customer Experience Manager) all provided consistent updates and support.
We couldn’t be happier with the experience and are excited to start fully enjoying our new sunroom.
