Three Season Sunrooms in Winnipeg
Benefits of a 3-Season Sunroom in Winnipeg
A 3-season sunroom is one of the simplest ways to expand your living space and enjoy the backyard for much longer each year. Rather than rushing indoors when the wind picks up or mosquitoes emerge, a 3-season sunroom provides a bright, comfortable space for you to relax, entertain, or monitor your children playing outside.
In Manitoba’s climate, a well-built sunroom quickly becomes one of the most used spaces in the house.
A custom sunroom in Winnipeg offers practical benefits homeowners appreciate every day:
- Up to 9 months of comfortable backyard use
- No mosquitoes or insects interrupting your evenings
- Protection from wind and sudden weather changes
- Minimal maintenance compared to exposed decks or patios
Sunroom additions are also one of the more affordable ways to expand usable living space while increasing the long-term value of your home.
Studio Sunrooms
Studio sunrooms feature a clean single-slope roof that blends naturally with most homes. This design works well for decks and patios where homeowners want a bright outdoor room without dramatically changing the architecture of the house. The sloped roof directs snow and rain away from the structure while allowing plenty of natural light to fill the space. Studio sunrooms are often chosen for their simplicity and how easily they integrate with existing backyard layouts.
Gable Sunrooms
Gable sunrooms offer a fantastic way to expand your living area, creating a bright and airy environment. The peaked roof makes the ceiling higher and lets in light from different angles, which keeps the room bright and comfortable all day. This style often feels more like a natural extension of the home than an enclosed patio. The big glass panels let you see a lot of the backyard, making it a peaceful place to read, relax, or spend time with family while still feeling like you’re outside.
You can finish the roof with shingles that match the house. This will help the sunroom fit in with the rest of the house instead of looking like an addition. The outcome is a space that feels intentional, harmonious, and perfectly suited to its surroundings.
Free-Standing Sunrooms
These sunrooms can be placed wherever they make the most sense in your yard, whether that’s beside the garden, near a pool, or close to the main outdoor living area. Free-standing sunrooms are the perfect addition to your backyard to provide a sanctuary in the garden or a pool for comfortable shelter close to the play zone so the grown-ups can keep a close eye on the children without getting baked in the sun or eaten alive by the bugs at the end of the day.
SunCo Sunspaces’ proprietary system is strong enough to stand on its own and endure the rigours of our Manitoba environment without any concerns for snow loads or wind gusts. Our sunrooms are actual buildings in their own right.
From Initial Design to Final Installation
We handle the whole process of building a 3-season sunroom, from designing it for your specific site and getting the necessary permits to putting it up. Our team takes care of every step of the building process for homeowners in Winnipeg and surrounding communities.
How long does it take to build my sunroom from signing the contract to completed installation?
A 3-season sunroom is designed for use during spring, summer, and fall, while a 4-season sunroom is fully insulated and connected to your home’s heating and cooling system for year-round use. In Manitoba’s climate, many homeowners choose 3-season sunrooms because they provide comfortable space to enjoy natural light and outdoor views at a much lower cost. A 4-season sunroom typically costs at least twice as much due to the added insulation, HVAC integration, and stricter construction requirements needed for harsh winter temperatures.
Can I use my 3-season sunroom in the winter with a heater?
A 3-season sunroom can still be used on sunny winter days with an infrared or space heater to take the chill off, but it is not designed to retain heat during a Manitoba winter. Running heat continuously in freezing temperatures is inefficient and may lead to condensation or frost buildup.
Do I need a permit for a sunroom in Manitoba?
Yes. In Manitoba, a building permit is generally required for any sunroom, including attached and free-standing structures. Sunrooms are treated as permanent additions or accessory buildings under the Manitoba Building Code, so they must meet requirements for structural safety, snow load, wind resistance, and proper foundations.
Municipalities such as Winnipeg and surrounding rural areas also use the permit process to confirm zoning rules, including property line setbacks.
How long does it take to build a sunroom from start to finish?
The physical on-site build typically takes 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the foundation and complexity. However, the total timeline from contract signing to completion is usually 8 to 16 weeks, including the permitting process in Winnipeg, which typically takes 2–3 months, while it is usually faster in rural municipalities (RMs).
Does a sunroom add value to my home?
Most homeowners see a return of roughly 50–70% of their investment reflected in resale value, but the lifestyle benefit is immediate. You’ll have a bright, usable space for up to 9 months of the year.
One thing to be aware of: a permanent sunroom addition will trigger a reassessment by Manitoba’s property assessment office, which typically results in a modest increase to your annual property taxes. The increase is usually a few hundred dollars per year — well worth it for most homeowners given the added enjoyment and market appeal.

With the help of our SunCo team, we were able to figure out a perfect landing that transitions from the sunroom into the house. They were also very helpful in explaining the prep work that is involved before the actual addition starts (moving any hydro and electrical lines, getting permits, digging the piles, etc.) Once everything was in place, SunCo sent their team to erect the building. It was all up within a few days. The crew was very friendly and dedicated to their trade. The only issue that we have, which is completely out of SunCo’s realm, is that the winter elements along with the Windsor Park gumbo causes some windows to shift but this issue disappears once Spring arrives.
This addition to our home was the best renovation project that we’ve ever had done. We use it every day, from March to October. As soon as the Sun is capable of warming up this space, we’re in there. Sometimes we help the Sun out by throwing a small heater in there and its top notch! With our growing family, the sunroom is a perfect additional area for gatherings because there’s nothing better than enjoying a nature view while visiting with family and fiends. Weather permitting, our 7 granddaughters love to eat in the sunroom; independently from the adults. My husband has a side job which necessitates clients to drop off or pick up documents, and let me say, it is unbelievable as to how many people have commented on our sunroom. We have recommended SunCo over and over again. If anyone is contemplating on getting a sunroom, we would not hesitate to proceed with Backyard Paradise by SunCo.
Update: After posting this review, Roger, a company sales rep dropped in and gave us some very good recommendations on how to address the shifting issue. Great company! Thx.

We use it as our living room and our view of the nature around us is our T.V.
It is our sanctuary where we can unwind at the end of the day and restore peace to our lives.
When our family is over and our young grandchildren come, we fill it with toys and joy is had by all!
We would highly recommend Backyard Paradise to everyone.
We absolutely love our sunroom!!

We were very happy with the materials and workmanship, so we called them back in 2020 to build our replacement stairs and railing.
We use the sunroom 8 months out of the year. We eat, entertain, and relax in the sunroom. Our favourite is watching the humming birds that come to the plants right up to the door.
The sunroom is my favorite part of the house says our pet dove.
We love being outside without bugs bothering us.
We highly recommend the backyard Paradise by SunCo to build yours.
Happy anniversary.

The professionalism and service we received was top notch.
With this addition to our house, it has added such a nice space to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning and have company over at night to enjoy a drink and snacks while being protected by the mosquitoes but still feeling like we are outside.
This was a great experience from beginning to end and would highly recommend SunCo for your sunroom needs.
